How to apply for aged care services?

Step 1:

First, visit your family doctor. Ask the doctor to write a medical referral letter that includes your medical history, current medications, and physical condition, and indicate whether you require daily care assistance.

Step 2:

Apply through My Aged Care. You, your family, friends, or a representative can apply online or by calling (1800 200 422).

  • Phone applications: you will need to answer many questions as a preliminary assessment.
  • Online applications: you can prepare relevant documents in advance.

After submitting your application, staff may call to further understand your basic information and physical condition, and then decide whether you qualify for basic services.

Step 3:

From July 1st, the system only requires one assessment. Professionals will evaluate your background, health condition, lifestyle, and daily needs to determine your eligibility. After review, you may be approved to receive Level 1–4 home care support services.

Step 4:

If approved, you may still need to wait for a placement, usually between 6 to 9 months.

Step 5:

Once approved, you can choose a service provider and arrange the appropriate services based on your needs.

Notes:

  • Not everyone over the age of 65 is eligible. You must show signs of frailty and inability to live independently, requiring assistance from others (such as bathing, cooking, shopping, cleaning, etc.) in order to qualify and live safely at home.
  • If you are unclear about the process, you can request translation services, or find someone you trust who is familiar with the aged care system to assist you.

From the very first step, we can accompany you, help you communicate with the government, assist with your My Aged Care application, and ensure you successfully obtain aged care services.
